I heard it again just this week.
An elderly friend was commenting on the changes in her government payments. Apparently her social security went up, but her Medicare costs went up. So, she's at the same level as she was last year.
So, she says, "Boy, you sure can't live off Social Security."
REMINDER: You were never SUPPOSED to be able to live off Social Security. It was a meant to be a safety net contrivance, to help insure that you at least has SOMEthing.
But, that's what happens with government hand-outs. It starts as a nice gesture; then it becomes an expectation; then it becomes a right; and, almost always, it becomes "not enough to live on".
*sigh*

so true! when my mom whined last year that she didn't "get a raise" in her SS -- I told her, so what? Neither did I.
